About the Regional Organizer Specialist Position

The Regional Organizer will be responsible for growing, managing, inspiring and supporting a network of activists across Latin America (in Spanish speaking countries and with a focus in Colombia and Andean countries), helping them to create, organize and win decentralized campaigns that keep fossil fuels in the ground and enable a just energy transition to happen. They will also be responsible for supporting the work within the campaigns developed by 350 Latin America in Spanish speaking countries.

Responsibilities

Regional organizing
  • Support, train and coordinate a network of local groups to develop strategic and successful local campaigns in line with 350’s national, regional and global strategies
  • Develop strategies and structures to bring new people into the network, growing existing groups and forming new ones, with a focus on increasing diversity, equity and inclusivity
  • Organize towards key events such as training, mass mobilisations and distributed days of action.
  • Identify support needs in our network, and develop trainings and resources to meet them
Partnerships
  • Develop and maintain partnerships relevant to distributed/decentralized campaigns in Latin America

  • Justice and Equity: Must embrace the principles of justice, diversity and inclusion, applying these in their approach to management and ensuring they are central to the team’s work.
  • Interpersonal skills: Must be able to work effectively with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders, including local volunteer groups, NGO partners, colleagues from other parts of 350, traditional communities, idigenous people, youth groups, etc.
  • Organizational skills: Able to create work plans and to deliver work on time and on budget. Be comfortable juggling multiple priorities with competing deadlines.
  • Understanding of the socio political and economic context in LATAM, and capacity to understand power and group dynamics.
Required Qualifications
  • At least 3 of experience of organizing/campaigning – whether as part of non-governmental organizations, grassroots networks, or other groups
  • Strong relationship building skills and experience
  • Proven track record of creating and implementing effective organizing strategies, including developing staff organizers, cultivating volunteer leaders, scaling campaigns and supporting ongoing innovation.
  • Experience organizing with an orientation to movement building and a broader social justice approach, including working in diverse coalitions, especially in communities of color, low-income communities, traditional and indigenous people and communities impacted by climate change.
  • Experience of training grassroots activists and organizers as well as mobilizing people to take part in a particular campaign or event
  • Ability to produce high quality online content and resources for specific target audiences
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to plan and deliver high-quality work within tight timeframes and a limited budget.
  • Comfortable working independently as part of a remote team and communicating over videoconferencing, phone and messaging programs.
  • Experience creating written, verbal and/or visual content for organizing campaigns.
  • Fluent in English and Spanish
Desired (but not required) Qualifications
  • Previous experience in a climate justice or social justice movement role.
  • Demonstrable interest and passion for climate justice, sustainable development, or other social & environmental justice issues
We are looking for someone who is comfortable working remotely, both independently & on teams, and who is highly responsive, able to lead initiatives while also taking direction from others.
Location: Remote within Latin America, Colombia
Position Type: FULL TIME
