Summary of Job Duties:

This position is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining University websites that comply with branding standards, accessibility guidelines, and usability guidelines set forth by the University. Using HTML, CSS, SQL, and PHP, the successful candidate will work with team members and campus stakeholders to identify project requirements, assist with technical design, implementation, and maintenance of websites and website features. Demonstrated experience in both web design and front-end development are required. This position reports to the Director of Web Services.

Qualifications:

Required Education and/or Work Experience: Must have at least two years of professional experience. Bachelor’s degree in Web Design/Development, Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, or a related field.
Working Relationship: Work as part of a dynamic team that impacts and interacts with all departments on campus. Frequent contact with employees.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist with the administration of the university’s web content management system. Provide suggested design for sites utilizing existing CMS elements and custom CSS, and work with web content team and web editors across campus to implement and publish approved designs.
  • Provide design and front-end code for website projects that demand new or unique design outside of the existing web design elements.
  • Make improvements to CMS with the goals of enhancing editor experience and improving the front-end site performance and technical SEO.
  • Provide project management and participate in requirement gathering sessions for design and development projects as assigned, including working with campus clients to define needs and goals and present technical solutions to meet those goals.

Responsible for maintaining a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner to foster teamwork and by providing leadership to subordinates. Requires consistent on-time attendance.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: To perform the job successfully, the following competencies are required for the essential functions of this position:
  • Knowledge of HTML, CSS, and Javascript
  • Knowledge of SXL and XML coding languages
  • Knowledge of web template development
  • Knowledge of software and hardware implementation process
  • Experience building websites that are responsive across desktop, tablets, and mobile devices
  • Demonstrated ability to write clean and maintainable code
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to translate technical concept to a non-technical audience
  • Successful experience with implementing SEO Best Practices
  • Demonstrated project leadership
  • Ability to brainstorm creative solutions to problems
